When God’s Will Becomes Your Passion
Often, it is our passion that defines us. A few years ago, I was in San Juan, Puerto Rico, working with a business associate from the Island. On the rear window of his automobile he had a sticker referencing a Bible verse. I sent him an email complementing him on the sticker when I returned to the States. He answered, “true success in life is experienced when God’s will becomes your passion”. When I read his words I had one of those “amen” moments. It was such a prophetic statement, but more importantly, it was a call to action.
The verse on the sticker was from the Book of Isaiah, in the Old Testament, Chapter 61, verse 1. It reads:
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me,
Because the LORD has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;”
A Higher Calling
My business associate recognized that life is about more than just making money. Although making a living and taking care of one’s family is extremely important, a higher calling trumps all of our earthly desires. This verse illustrates what God wants leaders to do.
In the “Maxwell Leadership Bible”, an excellent Leadership focused rendition of the New King James Version, John Maxwell tells us that Isaiah 61:1-3 is what God is calling his anointed leaders to do. “God anoints leaders to enable them to speak the supernatural words and perform the supernatural tasks He has called them to do.”
My business associate was clear about what he he has to do to be successful. Are you?
